Fresh reports are claiming that an opening bid has now been submitted to Manchester City for Ederson by Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray amid confidence on a deal.
The 31-year-old has been the subject of interest from several clubs over the last two transfer windows, with persistent links to the Saudi Pro League throughout the course of 2024, and into the ongoing market.
However, it now appears that Turkey could emerge as a more likely destination — and with far more momentum behind a potential agreement. As for City, the club are known to be open to Ederson’s sale as part of a broader reshaping of the squad, but only on their terms.
While the Brazilian has been a defining presence during the club’s most successful era — including a continental treble in 2023 — there is growing belief internally that a new goalkeeper will soon be required to lead the next phase.
The summer has brought tenuous links to the likes of Juventus’ Michele Di Gregorio earlier this summer, while there has also been interest in alternatives such as FC Porto’s Diogo Costa and Spanish links to Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen.
As for Galatasaray, their ambition has seemingly brought them into dialogue with City over multiple players, with recent reports in Turkey pointing towards interest in all of İlkay Gündoğan, Manuel Akanji, and Ederson — with each case handled independently.
Now, according to the information of TEAMtalk’s Rudy Galetti, Galatasaray have sent Manchester City an opening offer for Ederson and are confident about signing the Brazil international following a positive signal from the player.
Ederson has reportedly given his full availability to join the Turkish giants this summer, showing a willingness to lower wages to make a move possible and having been left impressed by the club’s project.
It is claimed that a fee of around €15 million could be enough to reach a full agreement over the 31-year-old goalkeeper with just one year left on his contract, while the Turkish club hope to negotiate a lower transfer fee.
City may still look to assess the goalkeeper market before approving a deal, particularly with Stefan Ortega Moreno also having made no guarantees about his future amid firm desires to take on a number one role between the posts at a club, whether that be City or elsewhere.
For Ederson, a move to Galatasaray would bring an end to an eight-season stay in Manchester, during which he has claimed six Premier League titles, four League Cups, and played a pivotal role in delivering the club’s first Champions League crown.
A willingness to lower wage demands to join Galatasaray may reflect both his desire for a new challenge and the Turkish club’s growing pull in the market. Whether City accept an opening bid remains to be seen — but the direction of travel is seemingly clear if reports in Turkey are to be proven accurate.
