Manchester United’s hunt for an elite striker is not going according to plan, with options seemingly dwindling as we speak.

Jason Wilcox was in favour of a move for Liam Delap, but the former Ipswich Town ace opted to move to Chelsea instead.

Recent reports had suggested that the club was focusing on Ruben Amorim’s Sporting CP protégé, Viktor Gyokeres, but now Arsenal seem to have taken the lead.

There is still Victor Osimhen of Napoli, who recently turned down Al-Hilal, in favour of moving to the Premier League.

But it seems he is heading back to Galatasaray, where he spent last season on loan, with Gala vice-president claiming they are confident of winning the race for the Nigerian.

They are not only confident about their wage offer but are also quick to remind the Nigeria international how they came to his rescue when Victor Osimhen was desperately looking for a way out of Napoli.

“We are negotiating with Osimhen, but there are offers from other teams. Galatasaray have also made an offer. The chances of Victor staying are increasing day by day, but the negotiations are long,” Ibrahim Hatipoglu explained to AS (via Sportmediaset).

“We have the budget to guarantee his permanence. Last year when Osimhen was offered to us, we didn’t need a striker, but his name was so important that we closed the deal in two days.

“Abdullah Kavukcu, head of transfers, is managing the negotiations together with agent George Gardi. It won’t be easy, but with each passing day the chances of him staying at Galatasaray increase.”

As relayed by The Peoples Person, the Turkish giants had offered the striker €16 million a year in wages, something INEOS will never agree to pay with the co-owners currently looking to trim an already inflated wage bill.

Napoli are reportedly asking for the 26-year-old’s €75 million release clause to be paid in full, which is another problem for the Red Devils.

It remains to be seen if United try and hijack the deal now that Gyokeres also looks to be slipping out of their grasp.

Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus has been earmarked as a backup option should all else fail.
