Matteo Gabbia is starting in defence for AC Milan in tonight’s game against Girona, and he spoke to the media once the team arrived at the stadium. He made it clear that the Rossoneri had three productive days on the training ground.

It was indeed a tough defeat to swallow against Juventus at the weekend, conceding twice in the second half. Milan barely looked like a team and Sergio Conceicao was very critical of the performance after the full-time whistle.

They will need to turn a corner against Girona tonight, though, and Gabbia believes that they have what it takes. Speaking to Sky Italia, as transcribed by MilanNews, the defender said that training has been very good at Milanello, but that everything depends on the result.

Post-Juve defeat at Milanello…

“We talked, we compared notes, they were three productive days but tonight we have to put it on the pitch.”

Conceicao has sent an appeal to the fans. How do you reclaim San Siro?

“We have to conquer San Siro with results and commitment, showing our fans that we give it our all on the pitch. It must be a signal to ourselves as well, because we work and we deserve great evenings and satisfaction.”

On Girona…

“We have studied Girona. They play very well in attack and have excellent ideas with the ball. With the coach and his staff, we looked at what we have to do on the pitch. Now it’s up to us to give everything we can for the match.”

On Ibrahimovic’s role…

“The first few days were strange, I saw him as something different than a teammate. He’s always been very demanding with me and he still is. Every time you talk to him, he tries to take you to a higher level. He’s getting into the role of manager in a fantastic way. He’s able to ask you questions, have a conversation and listen to you.”

The Italian is starting alongside Strahinja Pavlovic tonight, not Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori who are injured and suspended respectively. It will thus be interesting to see how the pairing will get on against the Spanish side.
