Fulham vs Man United Match Preview: Manchester United travel to London to face Fulham at Craven Cottage in matchweek 2 of the Premier League season 2025-26. Fulham managed to secure a dramatic draw against Brighton in their first game of the season courtesy of the extra-time equaliser by Rodrigo Muniz. On the other hand, the visitors faced an opening-day defeat at the hands of Arsenal, despite Man United being the better side on the day. So both sides will be itching to get on the pitch on Sunday and register their first win of the season.
In the last 10 Premier League meetings between these sides, the Red Devils have had the upper hand with 7 wins and a draw, with Fulham managing to register a win only on two occasions. However, Fulham did beat Man United in the latest encounter between these two sides earlier this year in March, when Fulham took down United on penalties in the FA Cup tie.
For Fulham, Antonee Robinson (knee injury) and Ryan Sessegnon (muscle strain) remain doubtful for this match. Marco Silva might be tempted to start Muniz at no. 9 ahead of Raul Jimenez, with the former securing the late goal for them in their first fixture of this season. However, Raul Jimenez is expected to lead the line for Fulham. For the visitors, Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazroui still remain unavailable. Ruben Amorim faces a dilemma of whether he continues to persist with Bayindir, who made a huge error vs Arsenal, or to start Andre Onana, despite the Cameroonian not being involved in the United pre-season by missing out through injury. The only expected change in United’s starting XI from their first fixture is Sesko being handed his first start in place of Mount.
Fulham (4-2-3-1): Leno, Tete, Andersen, Cuenca, Bassey; Berge, Lukic; Wilson, King, Iwobi; Jiménez
Man United (3-4-2-1): Bayindir; Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw; Dalot, Casemiro, Bruno, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Cunha; Sesko
This match is expected to be played at an electric pace as both sides look to capitalise on the transitions. Fulham will look to target Man United with quick transitions and use the pace of Iwobi and Josh King to get in behind United’s defence, as United are prone to losing balls in midfield with both Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes not able to control the ball for a good period of time. Marco Silva’s use of Josh King as no. 10 versus Brighton not only gave them a channel of dynamic link-up with attack versus Brighton but also proved quite effective for them out of possession.
This will be the key for Fulham vs Man United, as Ruben Amorim’s build-up from the back can be nullified by intense man-to-man press. Ruben Amorim would surely have worked on the training ground during this week to get more numbers of players in the box when they are on attack. As it was the constant issue for United in their game against Arsenal. Another key tactical idea which Amorim can employ with the addition of Sesko in the starting lineup is to use Mbeumo and Cunha higher in possession than they did versus Arsenal to get the maximum out of them and try to counter-press Fulham using the aerial balls to the focal point of Sesko. Manchester United will also look to target Bassey, who is to be deployed out of his position at left back due to the unavailability of both of Fulham’s recognised left fullbacks.
Fulham 1-2 Man United
Fulham may find a breakthrough through Rodrigo Muniz, the boyhood United fan who has been in fine goalscoring form, and a strike at Old Trafford would feel fitting. However, despite their defensive vulnerabilities, Manchester United’s reshaped attack under Rúben Amorim looks poised to edge the contest. With the Portuguese coach under pressure to deliver early results, the energy and cohesion of his frontline should prove enough to overpower Fulham, sealing a narrow but vital 2-1 victory.
