From Spain: Manchester City indicate to full-back he is surplus to requirements | OneFootball

Manchester City have reportedly told Brazilian international full-back Yan Couto that he is not involved in first-team plans for the forthcoming season.

The youngster has excelled during his second loan spell with Girona this season, driving the Catalan club towards and into their first-ever season in the UEFA Champions League for the 2024/25 campaign.

Couto’s performances working until manager Michel have also seen him thrust into the limelight for the upcoming transfer market, whilst his star outings also earned him his first caps with the Brazil national team at senior level.

But with Manchester City approaching their own pre-season campaign, which will take place in the United States this summer, many are wondering whether there could be an opportunity for Yan Couto to impress Pep Guardiola Stateside.

Unfortunately for those optimistic about such an eventuality, new details have emerged that appear to indicate the end of Couto’s career at Manchester City, pointing towards an imminent exit.

According to the information of Estadio Deportivo, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City have ‘made it clear’ that Yan Couto is ‘not a part of their plans’ with Kyle Walker, Rico Lewis and John Stones all available at right-back.

As a result, it is explained that the Premier League champions will ‘listen to offers’ for the senior Brazil international and are hoping to make at least €40 million from a sale, with Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus already ‘expressing an interest’.

Should Etihad bosses be unable to make such a deal possible, or not receive a ‘financially reasonable’ offer, then the plan from within the City Football Group is claimed to be a permanent move for the player to La Liga high-flyers Girona.

Manchester City are unlikely to recruit in the full-back roles at all this summer, but Etihad bosses remain open to emerging market opportunities for players that appear worthy of their market valuation.

Additionally, the club keep themselves open to recruiting talents to develop throughout the City Group, with a primary example being Oleksandr Zinchenko and his move to Manchester City in 2016.

The Ukrainian was developed elsewhere in the European game, before joining Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad for the 2017/18 season and rising to a position where he would go on to play an integral role for several seasons to come.
