Manchester City have seemingly finalised an agreement directly with one of their primary transfer targets as a big-money summer switch advances, according to reports.
It comes as club officials continue to restructure their playing squad following a disappointing season across competitions, with numerous positions expected to undergo investment while others are subject to exits before players are brought in.
Among the names not expected to be awaiting exits are the likes of AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders, Olympique Lyonnais’ Rayan Cherki, and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, with the latter duo likely to be viewed as potential replacements for Kevin De Bruyne.
Elsewhere, uncertainty over the goalkeeper positions continues to raise doubts over how much funding could be required to welcome in a new era between the posts, with Ederson expected to be open to a Saudi Arabian venture and Stefan Ortega Moreno eyeing a first-choice role.
With either shot-stopper potentially bringing an end to their Manchester City career this summer, sporting directors Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain are working on possible replacements to intensify pursuits on in the coming weeks.
One such option is FC Porto’s Diogo Costa, who is reportedly the preferred choice to come into the squad should Brazil international Ederson find a way out of the club for a suitable proposal in the next few months.
Now, according to the information of Jorge das Transferências, ‘everything is agreed’ between both Manchester City and Portugal international goalkeeper ahead of a potential summer transfer.
For the moment, it is stressed that an agreement with Porto over a transfer fee for the shot-stopper is still missing, although a move to the former Premier League champions is ‘very close’.
Reports in Spain had previously indicated an interest from Manchester City in Espanyol’s in-demand goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who is also subject to transfer talk concerning the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United, and FC Barcelona.
In fact, the latest information to emerge from Spain has suggested that the latter two clubs are the options being considered by the 24-year-old at present, who appears to be increasingly likely to move on to a new challenge in the next few weeks.
Manchester City currently hold a belief that new arrivals will be through the doors of the Etihad Stadium in time for the FIFA Club World Cup, although that is not likely to include a new goalkeeper unless there is significant movement concerning their existing names.
Nevertheless, the groundwork is in place for whenever City are required to step up their activity on the role, while they continue to pursue other options to strengthen the likes of central and attacking midfield.
