Roma legend Francesco Totti gave a lengthy interview to Sky Sport in which he addressed various topics for the new season, including the club’s recent summer transfer campaign.

The former Giallorossi captain also commented on whether or not he’d return to the club in an executive capacity following a tumultuous split in the summer of 2019.

“In Rome there is a lot of talk about my return, but the truth is that there is nothing to it. Nobody ever called me,” began Totti.

“They didn’t seek me out and I didn’t expect them to. But we are all happy, both me and them—though, perhaps the supporters are a little less so.”

“Why have club legends like myself, Maldini and Del Piero been left out of their respective clubs? You become cumbersome, an important name overshadows everything else. But this happens also if you are competent and important. If we are not taken into consideration, we are obviously tied to other objectives and thoughts.”

“Did I like Roma’s transfer business? Yes and no. Near the end they tried a bit of everything and risked it all. Now it’s up to De Rossi to set the team well on the pitch, to ensure that the players get back to their best condition. In the last month we have spoken with each other often and willingly, he is happy with what he is doing and now he will try to do better because he didn’t think the team would start so badly. He has the desire and the mindset to improve.”

“Baldanzi? I have always liked him as a footballer and and as a man, he is humble, simple and always makes himself available. He has a career ahead of him, making comparisons is also an understatement. He scored these three goals with the Under 21s and I’m happy for him, I hope that they are a good omen.”
