This Friday, the 2026 World Cup qualifying draw for European teams was held at Zurich’s FIFA headquarters. 2022 World Cup runners-up France will be drawn in Group D or Group L, depending on their ability to qualify for next June’s Nations League Final Four. Les Bleus will face Croatia in a two-legged quarter-final next March.
If France overcome Zlatko Dalić’s Vatreni, they will be drawn into a four-team group, the D one, with Ukraine, Iceland and Azerbaijan. On the other hand, if they lose to Croatia, they will face four teams from Group L: Czechia, Montenegro, Faroe Islands and Gibraltar.
The 12 group winners are qualified for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. The 12 runners-up will go into the playoffs, joined by four teams from the 2023-2024 Nations League. As Nations League group winners, France are certain to, at least, qualify for the playoff rounds if they finish their group 3rd or lower.
