Before last weekend’s action came the match rescheduling news that all FPL managers were waiting for.
Due to the FA Cup semi-finals, both Manchester City v Aston Villa and Arsenal v Crystal Palace will move to Double Gameweek 33, while Brentford’s trip to Nottingham Forest changes day but remains in Gameweek 34.
That’s good for squads with Bryan Mbeumo (£8.1m) and Yoane Wissa (£6.6m), as it means that they won’t now have a blank gameweek for FPL managers to navigate.
Both had chances in the goalless draw versus Chelsea, like when Mbeumo volleyed a Keane Lewis-Potter (£5.0m) cross to the back post for full-stretch Wissa to just about reach.
Lewis-Potter’s unmarked header brought a good save from Robert Sánchez (£4.5m), while a second-half counter saw Mbeumo dribble, exchange passes with Wissa and force another big stop from the visitors' keeper.
Straight after came arguably the afternoon’s biggest chance. Sepp van den Berg (£4.1m) met a cross from a few yards out and headed downwards, only to see the ball bounce over the bar.
Goalkeeper Mark Flekken (£4.4m) made six saves against Chelsea in Gameweek 31. This saw him register his second double-digit haul for the season, with 10 points courtesy of a clean sheet, two save points, two minutes played points and two bonus points.
The Blues accumulated 21 shots, but the likes of Pedro Neto (£6.2m) and Reece James (£4.8m) couldn’t find a way past the stopper. Flekken’s 10 points has seen him breach the all-important 100-point total for the season.
Flekken has made by far the most Premier League saves (131), also ahead of all other goalkeepers in Europe’s ‘top five’ divisions. The next best are based in Ligue 1.
Managers about to use their Wildcard chip have the chance to completely change their squad for free.
Boasting three clean sheets in seven outings, Flekken could be a wise purchase in tandem with David Raya (£5.5m) or Dean Henderson (£4.6m) – he’ll play in Blank Gameweek 34 and they won’t.
Elsewhere, Brennan Johnson (£6.2m) made the most of a rare start for Tottenham, delivering two goals, an assist and 18 points against Southampton.
There were also 13 points for both Evanilson (£5.8m) and Alex Iwobi (£5.5m), representing Bournemouth and Fulham.
Meanwhile, the star of Monday night was Jacob Murphy (£5.1m). Gameweeks 30 and 31 were very popular Wildcard points and over 770,000 bought the Newcastle winger. They were rewarded by him scoring twice in the first 11 minutes against Leicester.
Murphy has started every Magpies match since Gameweek 14, a period where only Mohamed Salah (£13.8m) and Alexander Isak (£9.5m) have bettered his 14 attacking returns.
So it’s no wonder that he’s one of this week’s most-bought, as Newcastle and Crystal Palace are about to feature twice in Double Gameweek 32, keeping their players at the forefront of FPL decisions. Jean-Philippe Mateta’s (£7.7m) strike against rivals Brighton was timed superbly.
A lot of recent 1.1 million Wildcarders likely either sold or benched Morgan Rogers (£5.6m) and the Aston Villa midfielder keeps punishing them.
He follows a trip to Southampton with Double Gameweek 33, though Unai Emery is often rotating his squad. Two legs against Paris Saint-Germain are coming, as is a Wembley semi-final.
In fact, this deadline will also see a lot of Bench Boost and Triple Captain activations.
If using the latter, try handing this special armband to someone playing twice, like Isak. While he blanked in Gameweek 31, Newcastle have won four of their last five against Manchester United in all competitions.
Alternatively, Mateta might be a good differential, plus Cole Palmer (£10.7m) gets to host Ipswich. The Chelsea man’s nine-match goalless streak has included home games against Southampton and Leicester, though.
