City duo Mary Fowler and Yui Hasegawa have been nominated for the 2024/25 PFA Players’ Player of the Year.
Voted for by their fellow professionals, the duo make the six-player shortlist alongside Arsenal pair Alessia Russo and Mariona Caldentey as well as Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert and Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
Fowler, who is also in content for the PFA Young Player of the Year prize, enjoyed her most productive season at City to date, picking up six goals and seven assists in the WSL.
Only Lauren Hemp grabbed more assists across the entire campaign, while the Australian’s two goal involvements in four successive WSL matches set a new record for the competition in February 2025.
Her season was cut short by injury in April, but Fowler was the only City player to reach double figures in goals and assists in all competitions across 2024/25.
Hasegawa, who won the Club’s Etihad Player of the Season award in May, has also enjoyed an excellent individual campaign.
The midfielder completed the most dribbles in the WSL across the campaign and was involved in more shot ending sequences than any other player in her position.
Hasegawa was just as influential off the ball as well, winning possession more times than any other player in the top flight across the season.
Incredibly, the Japan international achieved that interception total without conceding a single foul in the WSL.
Fowler and Hasegawa are looking to become the fourth player in City’s history to win the award, following in the footsteps of Izzy Christiansen (2015/16), Lucy Bronze (2016/17) and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw (2023/24).
The winner of the 2024/25 PFA Players’ Player of the Year award will be honoured on 19 August at the PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester.
Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish Mary and Yui the best of luck!
