The man who kept goal for Paris Saint-Germain in their run to the 2020 Champions League final could be returning to Spain, at least temporarily.

Keylor Navas (37) is interested in joining Barcelona, according to Fabrizio Romano, with the current La Liga leaders desperately in need of a goalkeeper.

This news comes after Barça’s first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen (32) suffered a serious right knee injury, and the German is likely out for the season.

Navas announced his international retirement in May and has been searching for a club since his departure from PSG was made official that same month.

Ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, he rejected an offer to join Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, instead remaining in the French capital as the number two keeper.

L’Équipe reports that the Costa Rican is one of three goalkeepers the Catalan club are considering bringing in to start between the sticks for the remainder of the season.

The other potential candidates to replace ter Stegen include Barça’s reserve keeper Iñaki Pena (25) or Claudio Bravo (41), who previously played at the Camp Nou from 2014-2016.

Navas played five seasons in the Spanish top flight as the first-choice goalkeeper for Real Madrid, winning the La Liga crown in 2016-17, as well as three successive Champions League titles under French manager Zinédine Zidane.

After Les Parisiens signed Gianluigi Donnarumma (25) ahead of the 2021-22 season, Navas rarely featured for the Ligue 1 giants, joining Premier League side Nottingham Forest for a brief loan spell in January 2023.

In 2020-21, Navas was named Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year, according to the Union Nationale des Footballeurs Professionels (UNFP).

He won three league titles with PSG while also lifting the Coupe de France trophy on three occasions and winning the Trophée des Champions three times.
