It has been another difficult year for Manchester United in the Premier League with the club currently languishing in 14th position after 20 games.

Their poor start saw Erik ten Hag lose his job and Ruben Amorim has found it difficult to right the wrongs of the previous regime.

The Dutchman’s tenure saw the club win two cups in as many seasons but his chaotic style of play ultimately led to his departure.

While he was heartbroken at first, he has since been spotted attending football games in his homeland and now, as per Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg, Ten Hag is in contention for the Borussia Dortmund head coach role.

EtH in line for Dortmund job

The German giants are ninth in the Bundesliga with Nuri Sahin under increasing pressure even though he retains the trust of the board as of now.

The report mentions that the 54-year-old former Ajax coach shares a great rapport with Dortmund advisor Matthias Sammer and he was even present to witness Dortmund lose 2-3 against Leverkusen on Friday.

“Erik ten Hag remains the shadow coach for Nuri Sahin. Dortmund’s head coach still enjoys the trust of the board despite the team being in 8th place in the Bundesliga.

“Ten Hag was at the stadium in Dortmund on Friday for their 2-3 defeat against Leverkusen, as per @berger_pj. The former MUFC manager shares a very good relationship with BVB advisor Matthias Sammer,” Plettenberg wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Nuri Sahin’s job on the line

Sky Germany have claimed Ten Hag has been to Signal Iduna park numerous times as a guest of the advisor but there has been no contact regarding the managerial position till date.

It might become an issue if a fourth-place finish becomes out of reach for Sahin. Currently, Dortmund are five points off the top four having played a game more.

“According to Sky information, Ten Hag was a frequent guest at Signal Iduna Park after his departure from Manchester United at the end of October 2024.

“Things will only become dangerous for the young coach if fourth place in the Bundesliga becomes a distant prospect.”
