Former England international David James believes Jadon Sancho’s move to Chelsea is similar in many ways to Cole Palmer’s.

Palmer’s impact at Chelsea has been incredible following his move from Manchester City last summer and he’s taken the Premier League by storm.

The 22-year-old has started this season in similar fashion and already has four assists and a goal in the opening four league games of the season.

Sancho transfer similar to Palmer’s

Sancho arrived on an initial loan deal on deadline day from Manchester United, which will become permanent for in the region of £25m as long as Chelsea don’t finish in the bottom six of the league.

The 24-year-old put in a man of the match performance on his debut against Bournemouth, which included setting up Christopher Nkunku’s winner, with Enzo Maresca and the Chelsea fans hoping to see more of those performances throughout the season.

The move to Chelsea is a fresh start for Sancho after a difficult spell at Old Trafford and the Blues will be hoping they can provide an environment he can thrive in, and help the winger get back to the form he showed at Borussia Dortmund.

However, James feels there are many similarities between Sancho’s and Palmer’s moves to Chelsea and that United could end up looking “foolish.”

“In many ways, it’s similar to Cole Palmer,” James said as cited on X.com.

“Chelsea are going to give him a platform to express himself.

“If he can follow in Palmer’s footsteps, then it’s a fantastic piece of business and one that could leave Manchester United looking pretty foolish indeed, especially if they keep on struggling.”

If Sancho can get anywhere near the level Palmer has reached then for £25m Chelsea would have got themselves an absolute bargain and the winger is in contention to start his first game for the club against West Ham on Saturday.
