One of Artem Dovbyk‘s former coaches, Dmitriy Mykhailenko, shared his insights on the Roma striker and his early months in the Italian capital.
Mykhailenko, who previously coached the attacker at Dnipro, reflected on their early interactions at the club and highlighted Dovbyk’s key strengths.
“I was the first to give him confidence,” Mykhailenko stated in the latest edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport’s “Sportsweek”.
“I motivated him by telling him he could score at least two goals in every match. Everything else was already there—I saw it in his training results.”
He continued, “His greatest strength is his calmness. He’s clear-headed in his decisions because he knows how to wait for the right moment. He can score in any way, and I’ve always thought he was an incredible striker. All he needed was trust.”
However, Mykhailenko noted that improvement is still possible, “He just needs to work on involving himself more in the build-up play, but time is on his side.”
Finally, his former coach reiterated that Dovbyk just needs more time to settle-in following his summer transfer switch from Girona.
“Dovbyk just needs time to adapt to Serie A and the Giallorossi. Once he settles, he’ll make everyone happy,” he insisted.
“He has the talent to become the league’s top scorer, provided the team creates plenty of chances. The rest will be up to him. He can score 15 or even 20 goals in a season.”
Adding, “I plan to visit him soon and hope to bring him some luck.”
