It is no secret that Hansi Flick is keen on expanding his coaching staff by bringing back Thiago Alcantara, this time as a permanent member.
Thiago was part of Flick’s staff in the first few weeks of his tenure, playing a key role in connecting the Barcelona players with the German’s tactical philosophy before leaving.
However, with the new season fast approaching, it appears Flick is keen on having Thiago back to help out with squad-building.
To that end, ESPN has come out with an optimistic report surrounding Thiago Alcantara and his potential return to Barcelona.
According to the report, Barcelona expect to finalise Thiago’s return in the coming weeks, once certain financial fair play restrictions are resolved.

The club are currently working on multiple player exits and wage adjustments, which would help free up the salary space required for Thiago’s appointment.
Thiago is reportedly waiting for the green light to officially rejoin the team. His role is expected to involve assisting young players to adapt to Flick’s philosophy, while also acting as a crucial link between the squad and the coaching staff.
Thiago shares a close working relationship with Flick, having played under him at Bayern Munich, where they won the treble in 2020.
That bond is now set to extend to the sidelines, as the two prepare to reunite in a new capacity.
A product of La Masia, Thiago made over 100 appearances for Barcelona before leaving for Bayern in 2013.
He later joined Liverpool, but persistent injuries led him to retire in 2024 after just under 100 appearances for the Reds.
