A former member of the youth setup at La Liga giants Barcelona has thrown his backing behind Real Madrid, to get the better of Bayern Munich.

European heavyweights Real and Bayern have of course been pitted against one another, in a high-profile semi-final tie in the Champions League.

As much comes after the former got the better of reigning title holders Manchester City, with Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern having sent high-flying Premier League giants Arsenal packing in the last-8.

In the buildup to the tie being kicked into gear at the Allianz Arena next Tuesday, widespread chatter has already begun to spread, regarding the favourites to advance.

Whilst some feel as though Bayern could yet spring a surprise on Carlo Ancelotti’s troops, the widespread consensus is that Real Madrid are the team to beat in this season’s edition of the Champions League.

And one individual who is certainly in agreement with such a sentiment comes in the form of Alejandro Grimaldo.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Marca, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, on Tuesday night, Bayer Leverkusen standout Grimaldo was asked for his pick between Real, and Bayern.

And the Barcelona youth product showed little hesitation in opting for the former, assuring:

“Real Madrid is the favorite in the tie against Bayern.”

Asked to expand further on his point, Grimaldo pointed towards Los Blancos’ historical dominance on the continent, in adding that they simply “always appear” when it matters most.
