Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has weighed in on the heated argument revolving around Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United.

As Man United have continued to slip throughout what has been a disappointing season, rumours surrounding Ten Hag’s potential dismissal from his post have risen.

Now, reports have indicated that the United manager has a “50-50” chance of remaining at United next season, with a decision on his future to come within the next two weeks.

Still, the current United manager has shown no signs of his confidence slipping despite a poor season. Following United’s victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday night, Ten Hag addressed the Old Trafford crowd in what was his team’s final home match of the season.

Despite being greeted by a chorus of boos, Ten Hag insisted that his team would do their best to seek a win over Brighton in their final Premier League match of the season as well as an FA Cup final victory over Manchester City on May 25.

“I promise you that those players and I will give everything to get that cup, to win the cup, and bring it to Old Trafford. We are sure you will be there supporting us as you have been throughout the season,” Ten Hag confidently stated, despite his mixed reception from the crowd.

According to Wyness, however, even an FA Cup victory will not be enough to restore the club’s faith in Ten Hag.

Wyness, who served as a chief executive in the Premier League for two decades, acknowledged that the Dutch manager faced a difficult situation when he assumed his position at United. Still, he insisted that Ten Hag is not suited to the Old Trafford outfit.

“He’s not had the right support and he’s been overwhelmed with the club in turmoil,” Wyness stated on Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast.

“I just don’t think Ten Hag is the right fit, and the new owners will see another route forward for the club. Unfortunately, I think this is the end of his time at Man United.”

The former Aston Villa executive’s opinion appears to be shared by a fair portion of the media, especially given the many managers who have been linked with United as a potential successor to Ten Hag.

From Graham Potter to Thomas Tuchel and more recently the likes of Thomas Frank, the belief that United will seek a replacement appears to be on a constant rise.

Still, no matter what the future holds, Ten Hag will need to ensure that his team remains focused as they go for FA Cup glory to provide United fans with a reason to celebrate following what has been a largely frustrating season.
