Sky Germany reports that former Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder is a candidate to replace Sandro Wagner as Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant on the German national team.

Schreuder is currently working in the UAE, and Nagelsmann has already spoken to him about replacing Wagner. However, the Dutch coach also has enquiries when it comes to other opportunities.

Schreuder has previously managed at Ajax and Hoffenheim, where he led them to a sixth-place finish, before being replaced by Sebastian Hoeneß, while Schreuder was also Nagelsmann’s assistant at Hoffenheim as well as Ronald Koeman’s at Barcelona.

The DFB are actively working on Wagner’s replacement as the former striker’s decision to leave the national team at the end of the Nations League did not catch them by surprise.

Nagelsmann’s new assistant will be in position for the beginning of Germany’s 2026 World Cup qualification campaign when they play Slovakia and Northern Ireland in the September international break.
