Douglas Luiz has had a frustrating maiden campaign at Juventus due to multiple injuries and a lack of trust by their two coaches. He expressed his malcontent replying to a snarky comment on Instagram (via Ansa).
“I didn’t come here just to post photos. I joined with a purpose, listening to my heart when I decided to put pen to paper. Now I want you to answer: why hasn’t a newcomer like me ever played in two consecutive matches with this jersey?” “You could say that I wasn’t it, but that’s not the case. I’ve participated in the whole preseason, featuring in every game. I was coming off one of the best campaigns of my career and was one of the top midfielders in the Premier League.” “It’s true that injuries slowed me down, but I’ve also spent a lot of time on the bench when healthy. These physical problems weren’t normal. I’ve never been prone to them. Many things could have caused them, but I’d rather not comment on it. I’ll try to do everything I can for this team, even though it’s hard sometimes, but you can count on me.”
The 26-year-old had made 23 appearances for a total of less than 1600 minutes so far, failing to contribute to a goal, following a blockbuster €50M deal involving Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior.
The management is probably wondering the same thing, as he’s been okay in just a couple of matches in the rare instances where he was given a chance. They could use his best version while navigating some injuries, but the train has probably already left the station.
