PSG and Inter Milan meet in the Champions League final tonight as two titans of European football compete for the trophy.
There’s been plenty of talent to have worn both colours throughout the years, with no fewer than 12 players having represented the Parisians and Internazionale. Ahead of the final we’ve picked out five of the best.
Long before he enjoyed an Indian Summer as part of Big Sam’s Barclaysman brigade at Bolton, Youri Djorkaeff was showcasing his talents in two of the world’s fashion capitals.
The gifted attacking midfielder joined Paris Saint-Germain from AS Monaco in 1995, but spent just one season at the Parc des Princes. Djorkaeff 19 times in 45 games for PSG and helped the club to UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup success. After shining at Euro ’96, where he led the tournament for assists, Djorkaeff departed for Inter Milan.
Serie A title success eluded the Frenchman in his three seasons with Inter, though he scored 17 goals in all competitions as the Nerazzurri won the UEFA Cup in 1996/97. He left for Kaiserslautern in 1999 having scored 39 goals in 127 games.
Thiago Motta produced the best football of his career during spells at Inter and PSG. After an injury-hit period at Barcelona, Motta fulfilled his potential after a move to Italy. He caught the eye at Genoa to earn a move to Inter in 2009, who he helped win a Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League treble in his debut season. However, the combative midfielder was suspended for the latter final after a red card in the semi-final win over former club Barcelona.
In 2012, he moved to PSG after his role reduced at the San Siro. Joining the club’s exciting new project, Motta was a cornerstone in PSG’s rise to the elite. He made 232 appearances across seven seasons and lifted five Ligue 1 titles among his honours.
The signing that truly elevated the PSG project.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic became PSG’s goal record during an illustrious career in Paris, one that saw the Swedish striker score 150 goals in just 186 games.
The Swede was named Ligue 1 Player of the Season on three occasions, having also won Serie A’s equivalent the same number of times before his move to France.
Two of those triumphs came as the forward won three consecutive Scudetti with Inter Milan between 2007 and 2009. Ibrahimovic joined Inter from Juventus in 2006, following the latter’s relegation to Serie B in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal. Backed by Ibrahimovic’s goals, Inter replaced the Turin side as the league’s dominant force.

Mauro Icardi evolved into one of Europe’s most prolific forwards after joining Inter from Sampdoria. In the famous blue and lack, Icard twice won the Capocannoniere award as Serie A’s leading scorer, topping the division for goals in 2014/15 and 2017/18.
He was named captain at the San Siro aged just 22 and, initially, enjoyed the adulation of the San Siro. Icardi scored 124 goals in 219 games for Inter, but controversial comments in his autobiography contributed to his relationship with the fans deteriorating.
He joined PSG on loan in 2019/20 and scored 20 goals during his debut season, but was unable to build on that strong start when the deal was made permanent.
After 38 goals in 92 games over three seasons, Icard signed for Galatasaray.
Only four players involved in Saturday’s final are already in possession of a Champions League winner’s medal, Achraf Hakimi started out as a hot prospect at Real Madrid. He made two appearances in Europe when the club won the competition in 2018.
For some reason Los Blancos decided to let the right-back leave after two years on loan with Borussia Dortmund, selling him to Inter Milan in 2020. It became quickly apparent they made a massive mistake as he contributed seven goals and eight assists during their run to the Scudetto.
The Morocco international spent just one season at the San Siro before he was sold to PSG for a tidy profit. In the four years since then he has gone on to establish himself as arguably the most complete full-back in football.
Hakimi is a huge threat in attack, but he’s also a solid defender and proficient on set pieces. He will be looking to win his seventh major trophy since moving to Paris this weekend.
