David De Gea saw his career revitalised by Fiorentina, but now the club must fight to keep him after Fabrizio Romano reported an approach from AS Monaco.
The 34-year-old had been out of action for a year after his contract with Manchester United expired in July 2023, seeing him prefer to sit out rather than sign for a side he didn’t appreciate.
He did not look at all rusty, making a series of spectacular saves for Fiorentina this season, which helped them to reach the Conference League semi-final and finish sixth in Serie A.

De Gea made 42 competitive appearances for the Viola, keeping 11 clean sheets, which made Manchester United fans wonder why he had been allowed to leave for free.
According to transfer expert Romano, French side AS Monaco have come forward with a proposal for De Gea to continue his career with them next term.
The Spaniard’s contract with Fiorentina expires on June 30, but there is an option to extend by one more year.
That is not enough, as the club is in negotiations to extend it to June 2028 instead.
The season comes to an end and we completed one of our aims – European football once again I want to thank the club my teammates and the Fiorentina supporters – we always battled – fighting for the crest and gave everything we had Now is a time to relax and reflect
