Farid Alfa-Ruprecht is a tricky, creative 18-year-old winger looking to forge a career at City.
Since signing from Hamburg in 2022, the youngster has gone on to become a key part of Ben Wilkinson’s Premier League 2 and UEFA Youth League sides for this current campaign.
As part of our Black History Month celebrations, we spoke to him about his journey to this stage of his career and what has impacted who he has become today.
I started in school. Every time we had break I would be the first to run to the pitches and then when we were in class I would be thinking about the next time I got to play. I was always looking forward to the next game.
I was about 14. That’s where I started playing well and thought it could be an option for me and my family too. Since then I’ve been working hard every day to try and make this my life.
Manchester feels like home now and Hamburg, where I grew up, will always be special to me.
My role model is my dad. He inspires me a lot and I hope to make him proud.
I was injured with kidney inflammation during COVID time at U15s. I wasn’t able to play for about eight months and it was tough. That has definitely helped me mentally though, because when something doesn’t go your way you need to work hard and get back to your best.
I just want to see my family happy when I’m playing. When I see them smile after a good game or a win, that’s the best feeling.
It’s been a good start to the season. I’ve had a couple of dips but there’s been a quick reaction in the team to setbacks and we’re looking to get back on track and win every game we play.
We’re all looking to go as far as possible in all the competitions – UEFA Youth League, PL2, EFL Trophy. We have to compete in every game. I’m working on all of the basics of my game, beating players and picking out team-mates with crosses.
I’m always looking to get involved with the first team and hopefully be an option for the manager. To do that I will have to work hard and be ready all the time, staying fit and trying to do what the coaches tell me.
