After a below-average season, FC Bayern are set to undergo a shake-up next summer. Leon Goretzka could also be affected by this, as those responsible at Munich want to make changes in midfield. The player himself has now committed himself to FCB and would like to stay in the Bavarian capital beyond the summer.

In an interview with Sport BILD, Goretzka explained that he wants to stay with Munich for the long term: „From my point of view, everything is clear – my contract runs until 2026 and there is no reason to think about moving.“

The midfielder is thus positioning himself very clearly, although he has often been linked with a departure in the coming transfer window in the past.

Nevertheless, Goretzka does not appear to be considered unsellable within the club. According to Sport BILD, the bosses are pushing for changes in midfield and want to sign at least one new defensive midfielder in the upcoming transfer window. According to the report, how these changes will ultimately be implemented at Säbener Straße will be discussed with the new coach. The role of Goretzka will also be part of this discussion. The 29-year-old will therefore have to wait for the new coach’s decision, even if he personally wants to stay.

Goretzka responds to criticism with improved performance

In terms of play, however, the defensive midfielder is currently making a case for himself. In the Bundesliga clash against Union Berlin, Goretzka was one of the best players on the pitch and scored twice in the 5-1 win. „Today I played more offensively again. I think it’s fair and appropriate to measure myself by the numbers,“ he categorised his performance.

The German international has repeatedly faced public criticism in recent months after failing to impress in terms of his play. Most recently, the Bochum-born player was not even called up to the German national team.
