Farcical £5M Tom Lawrence Rangers claim defies belief

Everyone’s favourite ‘source’ Football Insider is making a few waves this morning claiming Rangers seek £5M for Tom Lawrence.

As we reported some weeks ago, the figure is closer to £2M at best, simply because he was not only a free, but his Rangers career has been completely beset by injury and his market value is barely at £2M. He is also in the final year of his contract.

The reality is that of course Rangers would love £5M for Lawrence, they’d love £25M for him, but that’s not going to happen with his injury history and lack of Rangers appearances since 2022, not to mention 12 months left.

So the club will accept £2M happily and to free his £22,000pw wages off as well, which would go as very good business indeed – he’s got that one year left which is around £1M in wages, and to gain that into the coffers for investment in other players is a much better deal than the silly reports saying that a player with his injury history, lack of appearances, at his age and year left on his deal will earn Rangers £5M.

It’s just dumb, and we feel like Football Insider forgot the year left on his deal when they made this latest porkie up.

Lawrence is very expendable, he has been told to find a new club and he will certainly leave this summer if someone does come in with even a solid offer for him.

Unfortunately, finding a Championship side willing to take his wage on is a lot tougher, because that £22K a week is a lot of cash.

It’s the same problem Rangers have with Sam Lammers, who can’t find a new club because none of the Dutch sides interested in him have the wage structure to cope with his salary.

So we’ll see if Lawrence can be shifted this summer.
