Back after the international break with a win

What a thriller! On the tenth matchday of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga we took a deserved 2-1 win against Cashpoint SCR Altach. Our failure to convert chances in the first half and Altach seizing on their first shot left us in a spot of bother, until Karim Konate and Edmund Baidoo sealed a stunning late turnaround.

  • Maurits Kjaergaard and Aleksa Terzic returned to the starting line-up after injury.
  • Altach's new head coach - former Liefering and FC Red Bull Salzburg Academy coach Fabio Ingolitsch - took charge of his first encounter.
  • Our loan player Dijon Kameri made his first Bundesliga start for Altach.

Match summary

We made a purposeful start after the international break with plenty of early chances. Maurits Kjaergaard and Karim Konate had early opportunities to give us the lead (2'). We continued to control the play, but Fabio Ingolitsch's XI became more stable as the game progressed. We did find some decent chances with Adam Daghim (16') and Mads Bidstrup (19') lacking a little luck with their finishing.

At the other end of the field, Alex Schlager had a quiet afternoon on his return to the starting line-up. After some 25 minutes of play, Altach grew into the game but were not able to fashion any openings.  A quiet end to the opening period ensued, as despite our boys deserving a lead, nothing would go in for them.

Some 15 minutes after the restart, the game was turned on its head as the visitors got the lead completely against the run of play. Altach had their first shot of the game on the hour mark, and certainly made it count! Schlager saved Gebauer's shot only for Lukas Fridrikas to turn it in for 1-0 at the far post.

Altach's opening goal really took the sting out of us. We got back into the swing of things with 20 minutes to play and pounced twice in the final stages. Dedic played a delicious cross and Konate sent in a bullet header that Stojanovic had no chance of stopping (84'). Two minutes after that, a long ball over the defence found Konate again. This time the Ivorian knocked it across to Edmund Baidoo, who scored his first Austrian Bundesliga goal to give us a 2-1 home win (86')! Oscar Gloukh had a chance of making it 3-1, only for a great save from the Altach goalkeeper to stop him (90'). The final whistle soon sounded in any case as the three deserved points could be celebrated.  We can now go confidently into our UEFA Champions League home match against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday 23 October at 21:00. Tickets are available still for all our 2024/25 season-ticket holders as well as those who purchased tickets in 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2024/25!

The first match after the international break is never easy, and clearly we weren't in ideal form coming into it. We had to really show and battle our way to a reaction! An early goal might have made things easier for us, but we knew ahead of the match that facing Altach - with their new coach and his way of playing - would not be straightforward. I am really pleased about the three points. You saw after the first goal how free and confident we started to play, and we have to build on that. Now we are looking ahead to Zagreb!

Pepijn Lijnders

I'm just very happy that we won and got three points, as that was not something we could take for granted after our recent phase. We battled to the very last minute - we have to keep doing that. We kept on believing, otherwise it wouldn't have happened. We had a lot of misfortune before the opening goal, but we kept on working away and won it! We can be proud of ourselves, even if we can still do lots of things better, of course.
