Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has teased a Celtic summer windfall by providing an update regarding the future of Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutchman was a title winner with Bayer Leverkusen last season but has been tipped with a move this summer with a release clause remaining in his deal with the Bundesliga side.

Manager Xabi Alonso has already signalled his intent to depart at the end of the campaign with the Basque manager expected to join Real Madrid. A number of the players that helped Alonso and Leverkusen to a league and cup double are expected to move on, with Frimpong one of a few that are heavily tipped to move on in the summer.

Romano is reporting that Liverpool remain well informed about how a deal would look with the player keen on a move as the English Champions-elect look to replace Trent Alexander Arnold. The Liverpudlian secured a move to Real Madrid on a pre-contract, which will see him likely link up with Alonso. The news regarding Frimpong is intriguing for Celtic supporters as the club retain a stake in Frimpong, entitling a sell-on fee from a future sale.

The sizeable sell-on fee that would entitle them to around 20% of the fee that he eventually goes for, meaning that the club could net around €7m from the defender that left Paradise in 2021.

Frimpong joined Celtic in September 2019 from Manchester City. The youngster broke through under Neil Lennon as Celtic won a Treble in the 2019/20 season before leaving midway through the COVID season. In his time at the club, Frimpong made 51 appearances, scoring three goals and assisting on eight occasions. Performances caught the eye across Europe and the Bundesliga side swooped to sign Frimpong in a deal worth around £12m.

It is certainly one to keep an eye on this summer.
