Uncertainty over Caoimhin Kelleher’s Liverpool future may yet lead the Reds to land a new goalkeeper this summer.

One name they have been linked with in recent weeks is that of relegated Burnley’s No.1, James Trafford (Graeme Bailey).

It has now emerged, however, that the Reds may be pipped to the post by fellow Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

“Newcastle are advancing on a deal to sign James Trafford from Burnley. They have an agreement with the goalkeeper on personal terms, and they are working on a new bid in excess of £15m after their first proposal was rejected. Trafford has already said yes to the move,” Fabrizio Romano wrote for the Daily Briefing.

The Magpies are believed to be in need of some sales to meet PSR requirements and raise funds for transfer business.

This certainly explains why we’ve seen links arise between Arne Slot’s outfit and his former protege Yankuba Minteh (formerly on loan at Feyenoord last term).

Will Liverpool sign a new goalkeeper this summer?

That very much depends on how things pan out with third-choice shotstopper Adrian and our No.2 in Kelleher.

The latter has opened himself up to a fresh opportunity, should one arise, with his public declaration of a desire to be a No.1 goalkeeper – be that at Liverpool or elsewhere.

We’re massive fans of the Republic of Ireland international and it’s our opinionnot to mention Jurgen Klopp’s – that there simply isn’t a better No.2 in world football.

There’s also a strong possibility that our Spanish ‘keeper makes a return to his homeland amid links to Real Betis.
