The Blades are currently on track to achieve promotion back to the Premier League at the very first time of asking.

Chris Wilder's side are second in the Championship with a five-point advantage over third-placed Burnley - who are in action against lowly Cardiff City this evening - having won five of their last six league outings.

A swift Premier League return is the key target, of course, but it does appear as though United are also setting their sights into the future as they look to run the rule over Braid.

Sheffield United take Partick Thistle's Jack Braid on trial

Sources have exclusively revealed to FLW that Sheffield United have taken the highly-rated 16-year-old striker on trial ahead of a potential move.

It is believed that the promotion hopefuls are keen to take a closer look into Braid, who has caught the eye with his performances for Partick Thistle's U18 side.

Braid will be hoping to make an impression in South Yorkshire and earn a deal with the club, which would likely see him initially turn out at U18 level.

Chris Wilder's well-stocked striker department at Sheffield United

Should Sheffield United decide to pursue a deal for Braid - and both parties can agree on terms - he would represent a long-term signing for the club, who currently have a well-stocked striker stable.

Braid is still only 16 and has not yet made his debut for Partick Thistle in the second-tier of Scottish football, so would be under no pressure to be in the first-team frame for some time.

Wilder already has a host of striking options at his disposal. Seven-goal frontman Tyrese Campbell has been the pick of the bunch when assessing performances over the current season, while Kieffer Moore and January arrival Tom Cannon both bring real goalscoring pedigree at this level.

Rhian Brewster has once again flattered to deceive at Bramall Lane, but much will be hoped from 18-year-old striker Ryan One, and Ben Brereton Diaz can also lead the line - even if Wilder has preferred to field the Chilean wide-left after returning him to the club in the winter window.
