Don Goodman has told FLW his verdict on whether Blackburn Rovers should cash in on transfer interest in Makhtar Gueye
Don Goodman would be surprised if Valerien Ismael would sanction the sale of Makhtar Gueye from Blackburn Rovers this summer.
According to Sacha Tovolieri, the forward is attracting interest from UAE outfit Al-Wahda SC.
Gueye joined the Championship side last year, and proved himself as a regular member of the first team squad as the club finished seventh in the table.
The Senegalese featured 44 times in the league, including 23 starts, contributing six goals and six assists.
Goodman believes that Gueye is the kind of player that should thrive under Ismael at Ewood Park.
He expressed his surprise at the prospect of a sale, suggesting he’s someone that the Blackburn boss will want to keep around the squad.
“I guess really the answer to the question about Makhtar Gueye would be what the fee would be, really,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.
“Every player has a price, but I’d be surprised if Valerien Ismael wouldn’t want to keep him.
“He strikes me as being his kind of striker.
“When you look at the big lads that he had at Barnsley in that successful season, when you look at the fact he spent a lot of money to take Daryl Dike to West Bromwich Albion, and then you look at how well Makhtar Gueye did last season.
“He didn’t start every game, I think it was 20-something games, six goals, six assists and he was an absolute handful for Championship defenders.
“So I would’ve thought he would’ve been a player Valerien Ismael would want to keep around at Ewood Park.”
Blackburn will begin their Championship campaign with a trip to the Hawthorns to face West Brom on 9 August in a 3pm kick-off, with Ismael returning to his former side.
Gueye proved a smart signing last year, and is someone that should be kept around for the upcoming campaign.
Of course, every player has an asking price that they could theoretically go for, but unless Blackburn receive a really stunning offer then they may be better off keeping him.
He contributed six goals and six assists in his first year in the team, and there’s every chance he will now improve on that after settling into life in English football.
Given he is also a suitable fit for Ismael’s style of play only strengthens the argument for keeping him beyond this summer.
