EFL pundit has exclusively told Football League World that he believes Bristol City should ensure they keep Scott Twine this summer.

Bristol City have had an impressive start to the 2025/26 campaign, with the Robins picking up four points from their opening couple of Championship matches, as well as easing past Milton Keynes Dons in the first round of the EFL Cup.

On the opening day of the campaign, Bristol City went to Bramall Lane and hammered Sheffield United by four goals to one, in a symbolically important result, too, having been beaten 6-0 on aggregate by the Blades in the play-off semi-finals last season.

Since that play-off defeat, former Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber has replaced Norwich City-poached Liam Manning in the dugout at Ashton Gate, and City backed up their win in South Yorkshire with a 2-0 win over MK Dons and a goalless draw against a stubborn and difficult to beat Charlton Athletic side.

In that clash with United, the ever impressive Scott Twine scored a free-kick early on to further cement his growing reputation as one of the best set-piece takers in world football, and he went on to pick up an assist and score their fourth in that game before providing both assists for the goals in their victory over MK Dons.

Twine has enjoyed a brilliant start and, with a couple of weeks of the summer transfer window to go, it will be crucial that Bristol City ensure his form doesn’t lead to them cashing in.

Twine is beginning to thrive at Bristol City

After a brilliant stint at MK Dons in the 2021/22 campaign, Twine earned a move to eventual Championship title winners Burnley, but he struggled to make much of an impact for Vincent Kompany’s Clarets, albeit he did score a trademark and match-winning free-kick against West Bromwich Albion in mid-January.

After a loan spell with Hull City, he joined Bristol City on an initial loan deal in the January transfer window of 2024 and, last summer, having then joined on a permanent deal to try and properly kick on, back with Liam Manning, Twine began to show his quality in Manning’s system and style.

The start of this season has continued to make Twine the focus of the City attack, and he will no doubt be garnering a lot of attention, but it is attention that EFL pundit Don Goodman, speaking exclusively to Football League World, believes the club should try to ignore and try to keep at the club to ensure they make him a key player for them again this year.

Goodman says: “Scott Twine has started the season unbelievably well, with two goals and three assists already in this campaign, which is a brilliant, brilliant start.

“I haven’t been aware of any rumours circulating that there are clubs in for Scott Twine, so at this moment have to be reasonably confident that Bristol City would be able to keep hold of him and make him a real important part of what I’m sure they hope will be another successful season.

“I think for them getting anywhere near the play-offs would represent another successful season, and the way to do that is to keep your best creative players, and he certainly falls into that category.

“I would be optimistic that they’d be able to keep him.”

No big sales from Bristol City this summer

In the last decade, Bristol City have often made fairly big money sales, with their top ten record departures all coming since the summer of 2016, and nine of those since the summer of 2018.

The bigger money departure last year was Tommy Conway to Middlesbrough, with Alex Scott leaving for AFC Bournemouth in 2023, joining Antoine Semenyo, who left Ashton Gate in 2022; and so forth.

This time around, though, things have been reasonably quiet, and that is especially surprising given they have kept hold of captain Jason Knight, for now, amid previous reported interest from Everton.
