The 27-year-old is on the hunt for a new club after being released by the Baggies
Former West Bromwich Albion winger Grady Diangana has reportedly received interest from Scottish side Rangers.
That’s according to a report from Africafoot, which states that the Scottish giants have made contact with the player following his exit from the Baggies.
It was announced towards the end of May that Diangana was not to have his deal renewed at the Hawthorns, having been with the club since 2019.
That means he’s free to look for a new club, and Rangers are alert to his availability.
According to the Africafoot report, contact has been made with Diangana’s camp to discuss a move to Ibrox Stadium this summer.
It went on to state that “occasional interest” in Diagana had been shown by Wolverhampton Wanderers, Valencia and Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq.
Rangers recently drew Greek side Panathinaikos in their first Champions League qualifier, the first of three rounds they’ll need to pass to enter the competition proper.
The Gers are now under for Southampton boss Russell Martin, a manager who will know all about Diangana’s qualities, having faced West Brom a number of times in recent years.
Despite supposedly hitting the prime of his career, a parting of ways between Diangana and West Brom makes sense on the surface.
His final season with the Midlands suffered injury setbacks in the first half, likely a contributing factor to him becoming a bit-part player for the majority of the campaign.
Of his 34 Championship appearances last season, only 14 were from the start, but he did manage to net four goals and provide three assists in the limited minutes he was afforded.
With at least one more substantial contract left in him, if not more, it has probably worked best for Diangana that he has been allowed to go and test the market for himself.
The never-ending debate regarding how the English and Scottish games compare has still not be resolved but, whatever your opinion on that topic, there’s no denying that Rangers are a top team.
Plus, they’ll be taking on Europe’s best in the Champions League this season, should they qualify, under a technically impressive coach in Martin.
Still only 27, it’s not unfeasible that Diangana could click into gear and make a name for himself on the big stage, should the Rangers move come off.
It is a fear West Brom will need to live with, but there will certainly be some head scratches around the Hawthorns if he does come to life north of the border, knowing that they had the player in his prime already in their ranks.
