Former Roma attacker Amantino Mancini weighed in on tonight’s Roma-Inter and spoke of Daniele De Rossi’s departure.
In his interview with Leggo, Mancini said, “I had a really terrible time when the news of De Rossi’s dismissal came about.”
“Totti was right, they used him as a scapegoat. It’s as if they forgot that when he arrived on the bench, in the middle of last season, he raised the fortunes of a team that had many problems.”
“Daniele did a great job, always speaking clearly and proposing a type of football that until a few months ago was praised by everyone.”
“Of course, the start was not positive. But the club should have waited a little longer. He didn’t deserve it, I’m very sorry also because I know what kind of person he is.”
“Now Juric should be supported and respected. Instead I hear that at the first difficulty they are already talking about dismissal. How can you give continuity to a technical project like this?”
“Roma was unlucky in Monza, they certainly need to improve especially in terms of attitude. But they have a good squad and also a game that can bring results. The club should take a path and not change it at the first pothole they encounter along the way.”
“I don’t think it’s impossible for Roma to beat Inter,” he added. “Inter have shown themselves to be more vulnerable than last year, especially in defense.”
“Obviously it will take a very intense match and one in which you cannot afford to miss the goals you missed in Monza. But it is not a foregone conclusion.”
“Back when I was with the Giallorossi, Roma and Inter in those years were fighting for the Scudetto and the Coppa, it was always a battle. The most pleasant memory is our 6-2 win in the Coppa Italia final. Obviously my heart is more tied to Roma, I spent wonderful years in the Capital. That game was second in intensity only to the derby.”
