Ex-Milan Women captain Bergamaschi hints at lack of motivation leading to Juventus move | OneFootball

Former AC Milan Women’s captain Valentina Bergamaschi has said that she lost ‘some stimuli’ before deciding to make the move to Juventus this summer.

Speaking in her first interview with the Bianconeri on their official website, Bergamaschi suggested that she was ready for a change when the opportunity arose to join Juventus who are under the new guidance of Stefano Braghin.

The 27-year-old midfielder who can play a number of different roles signed a three-year contract with Juventus who ended the 2023/24 Women’s Serie A in second place behind AS Roma.

She had been at Milan since 2018, racking up over 100 appearances for the team and becoming one of the talismanic players in the squad.

It would not be unfair to say that the club has not matched her ambition in recent seasons with Milan looking less than the sum of their parts under Maurizio Ganz, and then carrying on in the same vein when he was replaced by Davide Corti.

Whilst a new coach is soon to arrive for the 2024/25 season, Bergamaschi took the chance to join Juventus rather than carry on with Milan. Bergamaschi is not the only player to leave Milan this summer.

“The call from Juventus came at the right time in my career. I had lost some stimuli and I’m happy that Stefano believes in me as a player. I hope to achieve big things here,” Bergamaschi said.

“I’ve known some of my teammates for a long time, and I’ve shared good memories with them with the National Team.”
