FC United of Manchester have always thrived on defying expectations. Born from frustration in 2005, the supporter-run club turned disenchantment with corporate football into a living, breathing demonstration of fan power. Broadhurst Park, their home since 2015, is more than a ground; it is the beating heart of a community that votes on every major decision. The latest ballot box coup arrives in the shape of Andre Wisdom, once a Liverpool prospect and now the headline act in FC United’s push up the Northern Premier League.
“FC United of Manchester are delighted to confirm the signing of experienced defender Andre Wisdom ahead of the 2025/26 season subject to NPL/FA approval and international clearance.”

Wisdom joined Liverpool’s academy in 2008, breaking into the first-team four years later under Brendan Rodgers. His early performances hinted at permanence, but competition at Anfield was unforgiving. Twenty-two senior appearances led to a carousel of loans—Derby County, West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City, Red Bull Salzburg—each stint adding polish yet denying stability. A permanent move to Derby in 2017 yielded regular football before injuries and circumstance nudged him towards the fringes.
He did not play a professional minute for four seasons, a hiatus long enough for most careers to wither. Yet last year’s short-term deal at Derry City rekindled the competitive fire. FC United have gambled that the flame still burns brightly in a defender with more than 200 professional outings and the muscle memory of top-flight battles.
“His signing represents a significant addition to the squad and reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to building a competitive and ambitious squad ahead of the new season.” Those inside FC United’s dressing-room know Wisdom offers more than a recognisable name. His versatility—comfortable at right-back or in central defence—solves tactical puzzles while his experience can mentor a squad built on promising semi-professionals.
For Wisdom, the marriage is equally attractive. The chance to reboot in a culture that prizes authenticity mirrors his own desire for a fresh narrative. At 32, he is young enough to influence games, old enough to contextualise them. “Andre will join up with the squad immediately and is expected to feature in our upcoming pre-season fixtures,” the club added, hinting that fitness is already in place.
