Former Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto says that Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi was “like a father” to him at the Biancocelesti.
Alberto spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, ahead of tomorrow’s match between Lazio and Inter.
Inter coach Inzaghi spent several seasons together with Alberto at Lazio.
The Spaniard experienced his very best form under Inzaghi.
Alberto had struggled to show his best form while playing for clubs like Liverpool and Sevilla.
However, Inzaghi found a way to get the best out of the Spanish international.
Initially, Alberto played as a forward. He typically played behind Ciro Immobile in the front pairing for Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 shape.
However, as time went on, Inzaghi played Alberto more and more as a central midfielder.
The Spaniard had a decisive influence playing deeper as part of Inzaghi’s strongest Lazio team.
“What more can I say about Simone Inzaghi? said former Lazio midfielder Alberto.
“He was really like a father to me.”
“I love him greatly,” Alberto said of his former coach. “I can only say thank you to him for putting his trust in me.”
“When one of us in the team had a problem, he always supported us,” the Spaniard added.
“Without him, I certainly would not have been able to do what I did.”
Alberto then said that Inzaghi “has grown a lot over the last few years.”
“The secret for him has always been the group he creates.”
As far as tomorrow’s match between his former coach and team, Alberto said that “I hope he can win the Scudetto again, from Tuesday onwards. But tomorrow, I’ll be supporting my old team Lazio.”
