The former owner of Inter, Erick Thohir, has revealed that he spoke with AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale and gave him some advice on the stadium project.
If today it feels difficult to stay on top of the latest news regarding the stadium plans of Inter and Milan, the dizzying thing is that this is a discussion that has been going on for over a decade, two ownerships ago for the respective clubs.
While the idea of building a new home together next to San Siro emerged in 2019 and then was relaunched a few months ago, there were even talks about the Rossoneri moving away to the Portello era towards the end of Silvio Berlusconi’s time.
Thohir has done an interview with Corriere dello Sport which was published this morning, and he was asked about the stadium situation that continues to divide the city, something we spoke about in a Substack update yesterday.
“Yes, I also spoke about it with Gerry Cardinale, when we recently met here in Jakarta. I told him that the right way is to build the new facility together. And it will also be good for Serie A,” he said (via MilanNews).
“At the time, I also discussed it with Barbara Berlusconi, who however then wanted to continue on her own. So, I tried to ask the mayor of Milan to have San Siro for Inter, but I had to stop in the face of the complexity of laws and regulations.”
