Massimo Paganin admits he “expected more” from Inter Milan against Bayer Leverkusen.
Speaking to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, the former Nerazzurri defender also praised defender Yann Bisseck for his growth.
Inter were bitterly disappointed by the manner in which they conceded in Leverkusen on Tuesday.
The Nerazzurri had held out for more than ninety minutes. They looked to be right on the verge of keeping their record of going without conceding in the Champions League alive.
However, a switch-off in stoppage time allowed Leverkusen defender Nordi Mukiele to put the ball in the back of the net.
In truth, though, Inter can’t have too many complaints about the result.
The Nerazzurri and Leverkusen both played a relatively cagey match. There was no doubt that the two teams respected each other.
But it was the German side who played a much more proactive match, and created more chances.
Meanwhile, at the other end Inter really struggled to fashion any telling opportunities.
Former Inter defender Massimo Paganin said that “I expected more of Inter.”
“But it’s true that sometimes during the season there are matches where you just try to see them out rather than trying to win at all costs,” he continued.
“That doesn’t take away from the fact that Inter could have played more aggressively though.”
“They lost to Bayer Leverkusen, who are a team who play great football,” noted Paganin.
“But they’re still on a great path in the Champions League,” he argued. “They’ve done what they’ve had to do, even with the injuries that they’ve had.”
Meanwhile, Paganin also had words of praise for young Inter defender Yann Bisseck in the German’s second season at the Nerazzurri.
“He’s improving a lot,” said the former defender.
“He’s still behind his teammates in terms of his reading of play though.”
“In the two phases of play, he doesn’t play quite at the same level as the other players in the team. But in general, Inter have got in a great profile.”
