Inter coach Simone Inzaghi made a number of changes to his team yesterday against Lecce.

However, there was one area of the pitch which was unaffected by squad rotation. That was in attack.

Inzaghi decided to go with his two first-choice starting strikers. Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez led the line alongside Marcus Thuram.

Bergomi: “Lautaro & Thuram Dominant, Taremi Needs To Improve Performance Levels”

Martinez and Thuram spearheaded Inter’s performance yesterday.

The two Nerazzurri strikers made life very difficult for the Lecce backline, who crumbled under the pressure at times.

It was Thuram who set up Davide Frattesi who set up Inter’s opener. He also had looked to assist a second goal for the Italian international, but for a narrow offside.

Then, Martinez scored a long-range stunner for Inter’s second. And on the Nerazzurri’s third goal, he turned provider with a deft backheel flick to Denzel Dumfries.

Meanwhile, striker Mehdi Taremi came on during the second half.

The Iranian international got his first ever goal in Serie A. He did so from the penalty spot for Inter’s fourth goal of the evening.

Former Inter captain Beppe Bergomi noted that “Inter approached the match well.”

“The two strikers are now becoming dominant in how they interpret the game,” he continued.

“They both constantly look for the goal. But they’re also altruistic.”

Meanwhile, Bergomi also gave his thoughts on former Porto striker Taremi. “He does well even if he doesn’t score,” the former Inter captain said.

“But he has to improve his performance levels.”

“If he can do that, then I hope he’s able to give one of Thuram or Lautaro a chance to catch their breath,” Bergomi said of Taremi.

“If he raises his performance levels, he’ll also find more goals.”
