Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer insists nothing has changed for the Nerazzurri following last night’s UEFA Champions League loss at Bayer Leverkusen.

Speaking to UEFA.com via FCInterNews, the former Bayern Munich goalkeeper maintained the Italians are still in firm control of their qualification fate.

The reigning Scudetto holders were minutes away from maintaining their unbeaten record in the newly formatted league phase.

However, Nordi Mukiele inflicted a late heartbreak on Simone Inzaghi and his charges, inspiring Leverkusen to a 1-0 win.

Mukiele’s strike also denied Sommer a historic feat.

Indeed, the Swiss star would’ve become the first keeper in Champions League history to start a new campaign with six straight shutouts.

Despite conceding, Sommer enjoyed another fantastic evening, thwarting every Leverkusen attempt until that moment.

In addition to conceding for the first time, Inter surrendered their position in the table to Die Werkself.

However, they will finish Matchday 6 in the top eight, albeit far less comfortably than ahead of last night’s kick-off.

Unfazed by the club’s first defeat in 14 matches, Sommer remains confident of securing automatic last-16 qualification.

“The end of the match was very unlucky, and of course, we are not happy,” the 35-year-old said after the game.

Inter made a string of uncharacteristic mistakes in the box, helping Leverkusen snatch an all-important winner.

“We had two chances to clear the ball in front of the goal but couldn’t manage it,” Sommer admitted.

“We lost against a very strong team that made things very difficult for us.

“However, we still have everything in our hands in this competition,” he concluded.

Left to lick their wounds, Inter will aim to bounce back against Lazio. They will meet in a heavyweight Serie A clash next Monday.
