It was a positive shared journey that led BVB into the bel étage of European football. Evonik, at first an unknown, became a popular brand with huge appeal, first in Germany and then internationally - among the general public, among football fans, and particularly among the company’s markets all over the world.
Norbert Ness, head of strategic commucations at the chemical company, said: “In the world of football today, 20 years is an unusally long time for a sponsorship. We will continue to bring the many positive experiences we’ve had so far as we continue to work with BVB. We also want to ensure that the achievements we’ve gained from this sponsorship continues to contribute to Evonik’s commercial success going forward. This is why we will be staying with BVB as Champion Partner.”
BVB managing director Carsten Cramer added: “The way in which Borussia Dortmund and Evonik have developed their partnership over 20 years and have done so with trust is undoubtedly a blueprint for successful sponsorship in sport. The fact that the cooperation will continue in economically challenging times shows the enormous respect that both companies have for each other. We look forward to elevating our cooperation to a new, but no less exciting level.”
With their partnership set for another five years, Evonik and BVB will primarily be cooperating in the areas of sustainability and health. These are issues that play an important role in the strategic trajectories of both partners. Furthermore, Evonik will also continue to use BVB’s national and international reputation for its own market presence, client retention and employer branding. At the centre of this will be the club’s worldwide summer tours, as well as the football academy and e-football. The partners have agreed to remain silent regarding the financial conditions.
