Asked directly after another momentous night for Al Nassr, both for the club and their captain, Cristiano Ronaldo preferred to focus on the collective.

He had scored twice in the 3-1 victory at Al Hilal, his 20th and 21st goals of the 2024-25 Roshn Saudi League, his first in the competition against his Capital Derby rivals and 70th in all in the Saudi top flight to move into the top 10 in its all-time charts.

The double - one a sweeping first-time finish, the other a late penalty - also carried Ronaldo to 931 goals in what is already an almost-unrivalled professional career. Even at age 40, the Al Nassr superstar continues to push the boundaries.

However, asked afterwards about chasing down one more milestone mark – that is, reaching quadruple figures for career goals - Ronaldo requested to let a major victory for Al Nassr sink in, instead.

"Guys, let's enjoy the moment, the present,” he said. “I'm not following 1,000 [goals]. If it’s yes, perfect. If it’s not, it’s not. The moment is the most special thing, not what is going to come, you know?

“I enjoy the moment. It was a great win, not because I scored - of course, I'm happy to score two goals against Al Hilal - but the most important thing is to win the derby.

“We played against a fantastic team, away; it's always difficult. We have to appreciate [the win] and we have to continue, because nine games left with the one more in the [AFC] Champions League [Elite]. Everything is possible. We have to continue and believe."

With 21 goals in the RSL this season, Ronaldo remains in pole position to retain the golden boot he clinched in record-breaking fashion last term.

He sits four goals in front of both Al Shabab’s Abderrazak Hamdallah and Al Hilal’s Marcos Leonardo, with Al Ittihad captain Karim Benzema and Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney one further back. The latter pair contest the Sea Derby in Jeddah on Saturday night.

For sure, Al Nassr will pay particular attention to what unfolds at Alinma Stadium. The victory against Al Hilal, their first in the RSL in seven attempts, keeps last season’s runners-up third in the table, but moves them to one point off Al Hilal in second, and seven from Al Ittihad at the top.

And, later this month, there’s the Asian Champions League Elite quarter-finals to contest in Jeddah, too.

Ronaldo, though, is too long in the tooth to be sucked into making any lofty predictions.

“To be honest, I don’t know because football sometimes is crazy,” he said. “But we have to do our job, we have to carry on, believe. Because, as I said before: in football, everything is possible.

“So, it's a great win today. I hope this victory gives a lot of confidence to the team because we need it for the next games and the Champions League as well. And enjoy the moment.”
