Press conference ahead of home game vs. Gladbach

Following last weekend's 2-0 win at defending champions Leverkusen, the Green-Whites are now aiming to take this momentum with them into Saturday's home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach (15:30 CET). Read on for all the key quotes from head coach Ole Werner on…

…opponents Borussia Mönchengladbach: "We're focused on ourselves and will try to deliver a strong performance in order to build on the result from the Leverkusen game. They will demand similar things from us. We are confident enough in ourselves to say that we want to win this game. They are able to pose a threat on goal in a number of different ways. Regardless of whether it's through long balls to Tim Kleindienst, or by working their way up the pitch, they have been able to strengthen themselves in these specific areas and have stood out this season as a result."

…the reverse fixture against Gladbach: "It's a different game. A lot has happened at both teams since then. If we make as many mistakes again when we're in possession, then we won't be able to pick up any points on Saturday. They managed to punish us for every mistake last time, which is what we can't allow to happen again. I think that it will be a very different game."

…momentum from the win against Leverkusen: "I'm happy after every win. As a coach, I then start thinking about the next game soon after. Since the cup game, we've made an important step in the right direction, as we saw against Wolfsburg already. We won't overstate the importance of any win, but it does always give you fresh momentum. I think we've trained very well this past week, just like we did the week before, and that might be a good sign, because things went very well for us last weekend, after all."

???? Squad update ahead of #svwbmg: Mitchell Weiser will be unavailable due to a yellow-card suspension. Niklas Stark remains a doubt for Saturday's match, while Marvin Ducksch is available to feature again. #werder[image or embed]— SV Werder Bremen EN (@en.werder.de) 13 March 2025 at 13:40

"Two great guys"

…Mitchell Weiser's suspension: "Mitch is an extremely important player for us, which is why it's frustrating that he will not be able to play due to suspension. That just means that others will need to step up and to do a good job. We have full confidence that they will be capable of doing so. Everyone will have a chance to showcase themselves. We have plenty of options out wide and I have a good feeling about both Issa Kaboré and Derrick Köhn."

…the departures of Anthony Jung and Milos Veljkovic this summer: "They are both great guys and will continue to give it their all out on the pitch for the remainder of the season. It's normal that players want to seek out a change. It wasn’t an easy decision, but the club want to pursue a different strategic direction. Tony and Milos have both been key figures for us, both on and off the pitch. There are arguments to be made for both sides, but as a club, we have chosen this option and I support this decision, even if it wasn't an easy one to make."

…a potential rebuild during the summer: "I'm not sure yet if that will happen. In Tony and Milos' case, both of their contracts were set to run out. I don't know what else might happen still. There's still too much of the season left to play. We've already started with our squad planning and scouting for next season. We will need to make sure that we have a strong core of players that are already familiar with the club and the league, in addition to some fresh perspectives from elsewhere – we will need to have the right mix, like we do now."
