Every game ‘must-win’ for Arsenal says Eidevall ahead of Chelsea clash | OneFootball

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that every game is a ‘must-win’ game for his side and that Saturday’s fixture against Chelsea is no different.

The Gunners face The Blues in-front of another big crowd at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are under pressure with Eidevall’s side having dropped four points from their first three Barclays Women’s Super League matches. They also slipped to a 5-2 defeat against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in midweek.

Arsenal need three points against Chelsea to keep their Barclays Women’s Super League title hopes on track but head coach Eidevall says that the fixture is no more significant than any other.

“Every game that is ahead of us is a ‘must-win’ game,” Eidevall said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “That needs to be the mentality that we have, nothing else should please us. We should always go out to try to win football matches.”

Arsenal have received some criticism for their recent performances and results. Eidevall isn’t paying any attention to external noise and says that there’s healthy pressure and criticism from within the group.

He said “I think the most pressure comes from ourselves. If I talk about me personally, I set incredibly high standards on myself and I think I’m going to be by far the fiercest critic of my performances and the team’s performances.

“Pressure is not only a privilege, I believe it’s a necessity. If you’re going to find high performances in football and if you want to be competing in all four competitions, you need to be able to handle and deal with pressure and make sure that pressure gets the best version out of you. I don’t mind that, that’s part of the game and part of the privilege in representing this football club.”

Going on to discuss latest opponents Chelsea, Eidevall acknowledged the fact that it’s a new-look Blues side under Sonia Bompastor but he does see a clear identity in their playing style.

He said “Obviously, they haven’t played so many games. It’s not been a lot of competitive games to see them play this season but the games that they have played, you can see that she’s set a clear trademark on how they’re playing, both in and out of possession.

“I think they look like a really good football team, so it’s going to be a match between two really good football teams and I look forward to that challenge.”
