Everton have completed the loan signing of Jack Grealish from Manchester City for the 2025-26 season, with an option to buy set at around £50 million.

The 29-year-old has already undergone his medical and will wear the number 18 shirt for the club. Everton are expected to cover a substantial portion of his £300,000-a-week wages.

Grealish leaves City after a frustrating campaign in which he made only 16 starts in all competitions, including seven in the Premier League.

He was left out of the squad for the final league game against Fulham and did not travel to the United States for the Club World Cup this summer.

Pep Guardiola frequently preferred Phil Foden, Savinho, Jeremy Doku, Kevin De Bruyne, Omar Marmoush and Bernardo Silva in attacking roles.

The Birmingham-born midfielder joined City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a British record £100 million fee and has made 157 appearances, scoring 17 goals and registering 23 assists.

He played a pivotal role in the 2022-23 treble-winning season, starting every Champions League knockout match.

Grealish has won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup during his time at the Etihad.

He said he was ‘over the moon’ to join Everton, adding that the passion of the supporters and a conversation with manager David Moyes convinced him there was ‘only one place’ he wanted to go.

He chose the number 18 shirt as a tribute to Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne, his two favourite English players, and revealed he spoke to the former before completing the move.

Moyes described Grealish as a player arriving ‘at a good time’ in his career, confident that Everton can help him return to his best and reclaim a place in the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Grealish becomes Everton’s sixth signing of the summer after Charly Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers, Adam Aznou and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

He is expected to take on a central creative role, although his arrival raises questions about how Moyes will utilise him alongside Iliman Ndiaye and Dewsbury-Hall.

Everton’s new owners, The Friedkin Group, have signalled their ambition with this high-profile acquisition, ending years of financial restraint.

The move carries an element of risk, but if Grealish rediscovers his best form, it could prove one of the most influential signings of the season.
