Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United career continues to hang in the balance, with Bayern Munich now reportedly joining the growing list of clubs monitoring his situation. According to German outlet BILD, the Bundesliga champions have identified the England international as a suitable option to fill the void left by Leroy Sané, who recently departed for Galatasaray.
Rashford, 27, endured a turbulent 2024–25 campaign at Old Trafford, falling down the pecking order under new manager Ruben Amorim. Despite a reasonably successful loan spell at Aston Villa, who had a £40 million option-to-buy clause in place, the Midlands side opted not to trigger the deal. The forward has returned to Manchester but remains on the fringes.
“Barcelona – the player’s preferred destination – are interested in a loan move,” BILD noted, but Bayern’s emergence as a potential bidder may complicate the forward’s decision-making process.

While Rashford offers positional flexibility — something BILD reports Bayern Munich value highly — the German side are casting a wide net. Alternatives under consideration include Liverpool’s Luis Díaz, Athletic Club’s Nico Williams, PSG’s Bradley Barcola, Milan’s Rafael Leão and Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma.
“Bayern Munich see Rashford as a perfect candidate for their left wing,” according to BILD, though it’s unclear whether he tops their wishlist. His ability to also operate centrally could prove valuable in Vincent Kompany’s developing system, yet competition for a spot in Bayern’s attacking line is undeniably fierce.
Liverpool’s stance on Díaz remains resolute. “The reigning Premier League champions… are understood to have told Bayern that he is not for sale,” BILD reported, shutting down speculation of a Merseyside exit.
United’s openness to Rashford’s departure contrasts sharply with how difficult it may be to orchestrate the right move. While Barcelona remains an appealing prospect for Rashford, their financial caution and preference for a loan arrangement might not sit well with United’s board, who would prefer a permanent exit for their academy graduate.
Having scored just eight goals in all competitions last season, Rashford will need to convince suitors he can rediscover the electric form that once made him United’s talisman. With two years left on his contract, any move this summer could define the remainder of his prime years.
Bayern Munich’s interest adds intrigue to a summer already buzzing with attacking movement across Europe. If Díaz is indeed off the table and other targets prove too expensive or unavailable, Rashford could yet find himself wearing red in Bavaria next season.
But with multiple clubs circling and Manchester United content to listen to offers, much hinges on the player’s willingness to leave his boyhood club and embrace a fresh challenge abroad.
From a Manchester United supporter’s perspective, this story feels like another symptom of a club in identity crisis. Rashford, once the face of United’s homegrown renaissance, is now being casually ushered out the door, and not even for top dollar. A loan to Villa that didn’t convert, followed by vague interest from Barcelona and now Bayern, paints a picture of a player that the club neither backs nor properly markets.
Ruben Amorim clearly doesn’t see Rashford in his plans, and while that’s fine in theory, there’s a sense of waste in how United are handling this. Letting a player of Rashford’s age and experience drift without resolution only drags down morale and valuation. Are we genuinely saying that one of England’s most naturally gifted forwards isn’t good enough for a side that finished fifth?
And what message does this send to the academy lads watching on? Perform, rise, become a star — then get farmed out to Villa and pushed towards Munich when a new coach fancies someone else. This club used to build dynasties. Now we build headlines and hedge decisions.
If Rashford ends up at Bayern, scores 20 goals and wins a title, United fans won’t be surprised. Just gutted.
