Manchester United came back from the brink of elimination to beat Lyon 5-4 in extra time and prevail 7-6 on aggregate.

Following the 2-2 draw in France last week, the Red Devils raced into a two-goal lead in the first half, thanks to goals by Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot.

Lyon drew level after the break with two goals in seven minutes from Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico.

The visitors were reduced to ten men late in the game when Tolisso was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Leny Yoro.

Goals in extra time by Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette put Lyon two goals ahead, but United refused to lie down.

Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire scored in a frantic finale to send United through to the semi-finals.

Athletic Bilbao set up a semi-final clash with Man United with a 2-0 win over Rangers.

The Spanish side were frustrated after a goalless draw in Scotland last week, but started the second leg with confidence and authority.

The breakthrough came on the cusp of half-time, when John Souttar fouled Maroan Sannadi in the box.

Oihan Sancet stepped up and gave Liam Kelly no chance by finding the bottom corner.

Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin hit the post in the sceond half, but the result was sealed ten minutes from time when Nico Williams headed in a cross from Oscar de Marcos.

Tottenham Hotspur withstood stern pressure in the second half to hold on for a 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt at the Deutsche Bank Park.

Following a 1-1 draw in London last week, Spurs scored the only goal of the second leg two minutes before half-time.

James Maddison was felled by Frankfurt goalkeeper Kaua Santos in the box, and the resultant penalty was dispatched with aplomb by Dominic Solanke.

The German side upped the ante in the second period, and substitute Fares Chaibi forced two great saves from Guillermo Vicario.

Rasmus Kristensen had a golden opportunity to take the game to extra-time with less than ten minutes to play, but the full-back dragged his close-range shot wide.

The victory is reprieve for under-fire manager Ange Postecoglou, who will fancy his side’s chances against Bodo/Glimt in the last four.

Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt reached their first ever European semi-final by knocking out Lazio in Rome.

A 2-0 defeat ast week meant that the onus was very much on the Serie A side to make things happen, and they took the lead in the 21st minute through Valentin Castellanos’ deft finish.

Lazio pushed for the second goal, but it didn’t arrive until the 93rd minute, when Tijjani Noslin finished from close-range to take the game to extra-time.

The hosts went 3-0 up on the night when Matteo Guendouzi set up Boulaye Dia, but the visitors just refused to lie down and levelled the tie through Andreas Helmersen.

A penalty shoot-out followed and after both teams had missed two spot-kicks each, Nikita Haikin made the decisive save to deny Castellanos and continue the Bodo/Glimt fairytale.
