Keeping goalkeeper Lee Nicholls would be a huge boost to Huddersfield Town's hopes of winning promotion back to the Championship next season but Belgium's performance at Euro 2024 could play a role in their hopes of doing so.

Belgian goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski was one of Luton Town's standout performers during their first-ever season in the Premier League, which resulted in the Hatters being relegated back to the second tier.

The 31-year-old's performances were enough to convince Belgium boss Domenico Tedesco to include him in his squad for the upcoming UEFA European Championship in Germany. He was in Belgium's squad for Euro 2020 but did not make an appearance during the competition.

Belgium are the favourites to top group E ahead of Slovakia, Romania, and Ukraine. The furthest they have gone at the Euros was when they lost 2-1 in the final against West Germany in 1980.

Kaminski has one cap for his country going into the tournament, where he will be competing with Koen Casteels and Matz Sels to start in goal for the Red Devils. Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was not included in Belgium's squad, despite returning from injury in time to start the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

If Kaminski impresses on the international stage this summer, it could attract interest in the Luton number one.

Luton Town will hope they can keep Kaminski

Lutonsigned Kaminski from Blackburn Rovers last summer after he had impressed in the Championship, as they prepared for their first season back in the top flight of English football.

He played all 38 league games as the Hatters finished 18th, six points adrift of Nottingham Forest in the table.

His shot-stopping ability and quick reactions caught the eye during last season's Premier League campaign, so Luton will hope that they can keep the goalkeeper at Kenilworth Road this summer as they look to build a squad capable of bouncing back at the first time of asking.

If Kaminski makes his competitive debut for Belgium at the Euros this summer, Luton will owe Blackburn an additional payment, according to the Lancashire Telegraph. If the add-on is triggered, it will be seen as money well spent by Luton for the goalkeeper, who won the Players' Player of the Season award in his debut season for the Hatters.

After impressing in the Premier League this season, it would not come as a surprise if clubs were interested in signing Kaminski and a strong showing at Euro 2024 would only attract more attention.

If Luton lose their first-choice goalkeeper, they may turn their interest back to Huddersfield's shot-stopper.

Luton Town are long-term admirers of Lee Nicholls

When Luton were being linked with Kaminski last summer, there was also talk that Nicholls was an option for the Hatters.

If Kaminski performs well at Euro 2024 and is signed by another club this summer, Luton could reignite their interest in the 31-year-old, who kept seven clean sheets as the Terriers were relegated from the Championship this season.

Now that Huddersfield will be playing League One football next season, it may be a lot more difficult for them to fend off interest in their goalkeeper.

It is believed that Tedesco will start Casteels in goal during Belgium's first group stage fixture against Slovakia, so Kaminski may go another Euros campaign without featuring on the pitch.

Were he to be called into action, it could be the first domino to fall in a series of events that ultimately sees Nicholls depart for Kenilworth Road.
