Jeremy Doku has issued insight into Erling Haaland’s mindset as a striker, particularly after the Norwegian was snubbed an assist from the Belgian on Wednesday night.

The Manchester City striker endured another goalless evening in Premier League action despite his recent hat-trick during the international break and a brace in the UEFA Champions League against Feyenoord last month.

Despite that, Manchester City’s other stars stepped up to deliver the goals and ensured that Pep Guardiola’s seven-game winless streak across all competitions would come to an end via a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

One of the star performers on the evening was Jeremy Doku, who built upon an impressive substitute appearance against Liverpool with a goal and an assist against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Speaking after City’s 3-0 win in midweek Premier League action against Forest, and referring to his goal supplied by Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku explained on the 24-year-old striker, “He just said congrats.”

Doku continued, on the subject of not returning the favour back to Haaland in the same passage of play, “Obviously it’s normal. He’s an attacker, he wants the ball. I try to look for him, this action I shot, maybe it was a goal or a miss. Today was a goal.

“Erling is not a striker who is happy. He’s knows he can’t get every ball so just wants to be in the best position. It’s unlucky he didn’t pick up a goal but you saw how important he was today.”

Doku will be hoping that his fine form in front of goal will be enough to hold down his place on the left of Manchester City’s attacking unit, as the club prepare to try and build upon their recent victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend.
