Manchester City welcomed one of Arsenal’s primary transfer targets for the ongoing market to the Etihad Stadium over the course of the weekend, it has been revealed.
That concerns Sverre Nypan – who has rapidly emerged as one of the leading midfield talents within the European scene and is well-placed among the targets of both Manchester City and Arsenal this month and beyond.
Reports from Norway earlier in January indicated that both clubs are in the race to sign the teenager, with a decision on his future said to be ‘imminent’ amid talks with several top clubs and that list being narrowed down as Rosenborg demand around £10 million for the player.
And conversation over a possible move to either of the two clubs, or at least into the City Football Group alongside Manchester City, intensified over the course of the weekend after it emerged that the player was travelling to England.
Manchester was the first destination for Nypan, who touched down at the city’s international airport on Friday night with the belief being that he would be holding talks with the Premier League champions’ officials while attending their upcoming fixture.
Now, as reported by MailSport this week, Rosenborg’s highly-rated central midfield talent Sverre Nypan has travelled down to London ahead of talks with Arsenal following a visit to Manchester City over the weekend.
It is detailed that the 18-year-old midfielder was present at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening alongside his family and super-agent Rafaela Pimenta, making use of Erling Haaland’s corporate box to watch City’s comeback win over Chelsea in the Premier League.
Manchester City have long been in the market for a central midfielder this month amid complications over Pep Guardiola’s ongoing search for a Rodri replacement, having largely failed with his recent attempted solutions.
Nypan is unlikely to be an immediate first-team recruit for Manchester City should they manage to fend off competition from Arsenal, and as such targets for the remaining days of the market are likely to lie elsewhere.
Juventus’ Douglas Luiz is believed to be one player of interest for Manchester City, although the Premier League champions are understood to only be interested in a straightforward loan agreement with the Serie A club, with no obligation to make a deal permanent next summer.
