Erik ten Hag has revealed Manchester United have spoken with winger Jadon Sancho during his loan away with Borussia Dortmund, with a resolution over the pair's public fall-out "close" to being reached.

Sancho's loan in Germany, which does not include a permanent transfer clause, is coming to its end in the coming weeks and so a fresh decision on the Englishman's future must be made this summer. Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl recently admitted they would do "everything" to keep Sancho at the club next season.

United have never firmly closed the door to reintegrating Sancho into the team, although it is expected that the 24-year-old would have to agree to both a private and public apology to Ten Hag to get the wheels in motion.

Asked whether that remains the case, Ten Hag only offered a cryptic suggestion that a resolution is near.

"We are close in that process," Ten Hag said.

The boss continued: "We are visiting games, not only [Wednesday's Champions League win over PSG]. We visit, I would not say all the games, but we have seen more games from Dortmund where Jadon was performing there.

"We also had a visit with him, we had a talk with him during his stay there and we will keep going with this process, we will continually be in contact and communicate with them."

For Ten Hag, however, the most important thing is focusing on the end of the season before giving thought to Sancho's future in the summer.

"There was a conflict and let's first finish the season – [Sancho] is not here now - so stay away from this issue now because it is not important," Ten Hag stressed.

"He has the return of the semi-final, for them also in the league it is not going that well for them and we have four important games in the league and the FA Cup final so that is the issue and the focus point in this moment and then we will see in the summer what is going to happen."

Should United choose to entertain permanent offers for Sancho, they will look to seal a cash-only sale. 90min understands they are unlikely to be interested in any swap deal, such as a rumoured offer which would send Dutch winger Donyell Malen to Old Trafford in exchange.
